First of all, it is essential to understand the meaning of the word re-discover; It is the action or process of restoring something that has been ignored, overlooked or replaced.
In the early 1800s, there was a school of thought that embraced a false concept, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ had its purpose in history only, in that it was preached to the Jewish people during the days when Jesus walked in Galilee, but that it has little relevance to the Christian church, to the body of Christ.
This false teaching has affected the lives of countless people throughout the generations past. Sadly this concept is corrupting the minds of believers today, and this is the reason that there must come a return to the preaching and teaching of the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“While Peter yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear you Him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face and were sore afraid.
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only” Matthew 17 v 5-8.
I want to share with you a conversation I had with a fellow believer; this young man has been a professing Christian for over 20 years. I was sharing with him concerning the parable of the unfaithful servant.
This man’s face witnessed to me that he had never heard that a servant can lose his relationship with his Lord, that there is great danger in a believer backsliding from Jesus Christ and forfeiting his salvation.
He went on to say that much of the teaching received from the ministers of his fellowship only comes from the epistles and that they teach that the gospels are only to be considered and view as being for historical reference only!
“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes, shall find so doing.
Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delays his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for Him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” Matthew 24 v 45-51.
Several years ago, I received a word from the Lord:
“Many misunderstand and misappropriate the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST when considering it only as a brief sketch of the earthly ministry of JESUS CHRIST through historical insight only.”
There was another word that springs to mind, that further emphasizes the need to get back to the Gospel;
“Everything must flow in and from the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, and no word must be lifted up over the GOSPEL. It is essential for all called by My name to be grounded and live in the GOSPEL.”
I would lay down a challenge to any professing Christian to show by scripture and verse exactly where Jesus Christ ever said that the Words and teaching of His Father were only for historical reference.
Where in the entirety of the Gospels is there any record of Jesus Christ saying that His Word, the Word given to Him by His Father was only meant to be preached just for the benefit of the people in His day but has no relevance for anyone else?
When and where during the life of Jesus Christ did He ever say that we are to give ourselves to another Gospel other than His?
Finally, when did Jesus Christ ever say that we are to look for another who would come, to whom we are to give ourselves to his teaching?
To further emphasize this issue, I am reminded of an incident recorded in the Gospel of Luke when the disciples of John The Baptist came to Jesus.
“And the disciples of John showed him of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Are you he that should come? Or look we for another? When the men came unto Jesus, they said, John Baptist has sent us unto you, saying, Are You he that should come? or look we for another?” Luke 7 v 18-20.
Are you looking for another person more qualified than Jesus Christ Himself? We are commanded in the Gospels to give ourselves up to Jesus Christ and His eternal Word. Take the time to re-examine those revelations of the Word that Jesus Christ proclaimed in His walk on this earth. Jesus Christ declared that the Words He preached and taught were not His own.!
The Father will use Jesus’s Words in the judgement of the lives of men.
“He that rejects Me, and receives not My Words, has one that judges him: the Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” John 12 v 48.
The Holy Spirit works and moves with the eternal Words of Jesus Christ.
But Jesus answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 7v 24-27
Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that hears these sayings of Mine, and does them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
When the even was come, they brought unto Him many that were possessed with devils: and Jesus cast out the spirits with His Word, and healed all that were sick:
When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom and understands it not, then comes the wicked one, and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the wayside. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the Word, and immediately with joy receive it;
Yet has he no root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the Word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the Word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the Word, and he becomes unfruitful.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that hears the Word, and understands it; which also bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Matthew 24v 35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away.
Making the Word of God of none effect through your tradition, which you have delivered: and many such like things do you.
Mark 8 38
Whosoever, therefore, shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with, and confirming the Word with signs following.
And they were astonished at His doctrine: for His Word was with power.
Luke 6 v 47 -49
Whosoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like He is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it:
for it was founded upon a rock. But he that hear, and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, My mother and My brethren are these which hear the Word of God and do it.
But Jesus said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it.
Luke 24 v 44
And Jesus said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears My Word, and believes on Him that sent Me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 5 47
But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe My Words?
It is the Spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If you continue in My Word, then are you, My disciples, indeed;
I know that you are Abraham’s seed, but you seek to kill Me because My Word has no place in you.
John 8 v 43
Why do you not understand My speech? even because you cannot hear My Word
John 8 v 51-
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keeps My saying, he shall never see death.
John 12v 47-48
And if any man hears My Words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects Me, and receives not My Words, has one that judges him: the Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
John 14 v 23-24
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him. He that loves Me not keeps not My sayings: and the Word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me.
Now you are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you.
John 15 v 7
If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.
Remember the Word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.
I have manifested your name unto the men which You gave me out of the world: Thine they were, and You gave them Me, and they have kept Your Word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever You have given Me are of You.
For I have given unto them the Words which You gave Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from You, and they have believed that You did send me.
Sanctify them through Your truth: Your Word is truth.
Mark 16 v 19-20.”
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, Jesus was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen.
